Role and salary The Associate Professor position in structural studies of proteins is related to two strategic research areas of University of Eastern Finland Environmental change and sustainable use of natural resources" and Ageing, lifestyles and health" https://www.uef.fi/en/strategy-2030. The associate professor utilizes the research infrastructure of protein crystallography and mass spectrometry in the Department of Chemistry in the study of protein structures and function. Areas of application include research into the enzymatic treatment of biomass and drug development. The Associate Professor is, for their part, responsible for the field's education and its development. Furthermore, the duties include the supervision of academic theses and postgraduate studies, as well as other auxiliary duties relating to the university's activities. The duties also involve the planning and organisation of research projects and networks, responsibility for research-related resources as well as academic and societal expert positions. Fluency in the English language is a prerequisite for successful performance in this post. The position will be filled for a four-year term starting on 1 January 2022. The position is filled for a fixed term due to it being a fixed-term research and teaching position (Tenure Track). A probationary period is applied to all new members of the UEF staff. The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job requirement component and a personal performance component. In this position, the job requirement component is based on level 7 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. The personal performance component can be a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % of the job requirement component. Depending on the personal performance component, the salary will be approximately 4,033.80 €/month at the beginning of the employment relationship. The Associate Professor in Structural Studies of Proteins position is a Tenure Track position. This means that at the end of your term, your merits and achievements will be evaluated to determine whether you can be promoted to the next level of the Tenure Track without public notice of vacancy. The criteria, objectives and results to be achieved during the term will be agreed with you in detail when signing the contract of employment.
