interim report of the research network, environment, health and information activities for communities in Africa - ENHICA
This report is a result of a multidisciplinary project carried out by ENHICA (Environment, Health and Information Activities for Communities in (West) Africa) research network. ENHICA was established 1995 in Finland by researchers sharing a common interest to document and reflect on topical issues of 'development' in contemporary Africa. ENHICA focused mainly on social and technological development, as well as problems related to the environment and health in West Africa. As a starting point the ENHICA -network aimed at detecting factors promoting or inhibiting local development. ENHICA sought to promote understanding regarding bottom up development processes which may emerge in West-Africa. The case studies presented refer mainly to Nigerian rural and urban communities in 1995-98. The field work done and the intellectual conclusions discussed in this report would not have been achieved without the hospitality and kind support by our many African colleagues.
