After moving to Shanghai with his friend Tai Cheung (Yuen Wah) and finding work as a coolie, Ma Wing Jing (Takeshi Kaneshiro) saves the life of crime boss Tam See (Yuen Biao), earning the enmity of rival gangster Yang Shuang. Ma becomes successful running an underworld club, but the cunning Yang has sworn revenge, and hatches a bloody plot against him.
