1970s Australian drama directed by Nicolas Roeg. While out on a picnic in the Australian outback with his teenage daughter (Jenny Agutter) and young son (Lucien John), a man (John Meillon) goes insane and kills himself. With very few supplies the siblings do all they can to survive the harsh conditions of the outback. When they meet a young Aborigine (David Gulpilil) who is on walkabout - a rite of passage ritual where he must survive in the wilderness for several weeks - he finds food and water for them and develops a form of communication with the young boy despite being unable to speak English.
